{"id":109524,"date":"2025-08-28T13:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-08-28T03:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/?p=109524"},"modified":"2025-08-27T16:42:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-27T06:42:11","slug":"tutus-to-work-day-raises-10000-for-our-kids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/news\/tutus-to-work-day-raises-10000-for-our-kids\/","title":{"rendered":"Tutus to work day raises $10,000 for Our Kids"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than $10,000 has been raised for children with special needs and chronic illness after health workers, businesses and local clubs joined forces for a tutu fundraiser.<\/p>\n<p>The event, launched by Ballina RSL and Cherry Street Sports Club, encouraged staff and community members to wear tutus to work, with the two clubs donating $10 for every staff member who joined in.<\/p>\n<p>Ballina Shire mayor Sharon Cadwallader also contributed through an online fundraiser, adding a further $2,000.<\/p>\n<p>Our Kids fundraising coordinator Rebekka Battista said it was a creative way to generate support for the charity.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So many people across the community, from local businesses, accounting firms, engineers, pre-schools, Zumba classes as well as staff at Lismore Base Hospital are joining in the fun this year,&#8221; Battista said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_115641\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-115641\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-115641\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/08\/539024804_1464591755_36207.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-115641\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tutus to work day has raised more than $10,000 to support children with special needs and chronic illness. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s such a fun idea that Claire Tyson from Ballina RSL came up with to create &#8216;A Day for Our Kids&#8217;, and it has really taken off with the community embracing it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The funds raised will go towards lifesaving paediatric equipment for the children&#8217;s ward and special care nursery at Lismore Base Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 2001 by Dr Chris Ingall in Lismore, Our Kids has helped hundreds of children across the region and purchased more than $2.8 million worth of paediatric equipment for local hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ballina RSL and Cherry Street Sports have proudly supported Our Kids since its inception,&#8221; club chief executive Guy Diven said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When the idea for a tutu day was proposed, we knew it was something special.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than $10,000 has been raised for children with special needs and chronic illness after health workers, businesses and local clubs joined forces for a tutu fundraiser.
