TWEED Shire Council will soon begin upgrading the car park at Ray Pascoe Park at Tweed Heads to improve access, safety and parking for the community.<\/p>\n

The improvements to build resilience against future floods include a new asphalt car park with 15 standard spaces and a new accessible parking bay.<\/p>\n

Boaties will benefit from 12 dedicated boat and trailer parking spaces, a boat rigging and de-rigging area and repairs to the existing boat ramp crest.<\/p>\n

In addition, safety upgrades for the shared path crossing the boat ramp, connecting footpaths, drainage works and turf restoration will complete the renovations.<\/p>\n

The council\u2019s director of sustainable communities and environment, Naomi Searle, said the upgrade would improve functionality for all park users.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom families and picnickers visiting the playground, to boaties launching from the ramp,\u201d Searle said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile there will be some short-term inconvenience during construction, the long-term benefits for the community will be well worth it.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve scheduled these works to follow the completion of the Dry Dock Road boat ramp upgrade, helping to minimise disruption for the community and waterway users.\u201d<\/p>\n

The car park and boat ramp will be closed during construction, with no river access for any vehicles or boats.<\/p>\n

Pedestrian access and access to the playground and public toilets may be temporarily redirected or restricted for safety.<\/p>\n

Work will begin on September 1 and is expected to be finished by early November 2025.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the car park upgrade, following the playground upgrade in 2023, we\u2019re not just rebuilding a park \u2013 we\u2019re supporting a community in reclaiming and reimagining a much-loved public space,\u201d Searle said.<\/p>\n
