A STUNNING return to form has owners and trainers confident that Mob Buster could be a genuine contender in the $2 million Kosciuszko race at Randwick.<\/p>\n
The eight-year-old gelding trained by Neville Boyle at Murwillumbah and owned by John and Donna Spedding.<\/p>\n
The trio have their sights set on the major race which is held the same day as the Everest in Sydney on Saturday, October 18.<\/p>\n
The horse placed third in its first run back at Eagle Farm in Brisbane against a stacked field of proven metropolitan winners.<\/p>\n
It came off the back of an 18-month layoff with the horse to run again at Randwick on Saturday, September 6.<\/p>\n
The owners were patient with the recovery time with the horse returning to Boyle healthy and ready to run.<\/p>\n
“You don’t just train Mobby,” Boyle said, “You’re his assistant, valet and cook,” Boyle said.<\/p>\n
“He likes things his way. If he wants out of the stable, he makes sure you know it.<\/p>\n
“Rain or shine, his preference is always a paddock during the day.<\/p>\n
“He’s definitely not a horse that would be at his best in a confined environment.”<\/p>\n
Mob Buster has already built an impressive CV with five wins and eight placings with its recent result suggesting the best is still to come if it runs in The Kosciuszko.<\/p>\n
The Kosciuszko is run by a TAB lottery for entries into the race, which are $5 per ticket.<\/p>\n
Winning ticket holders then choose the horse they wish to enter in the race and negotiate terms with the owners.<\/p>\n
Only NSW country trainers and their horses are eligible to be selected in the race and the horses need to have raced in NSW.<\/p>\n
Leading Murwillumbah trainer Matt Dunn has five-year-old gelding Fukubana in the mix this year.<\/p>\n
Since its inception in 2018 The Kosciuszko has been a major carrot for owners and trainers across the region.<\/p>\n
