MURWILLUMBAH CORE is calling for new street coordinators to become the neighbourhood’s go-to people in the event of a natural disaster.<\/p>\n

In times of crisis, such as floods, street coordinators act as a link between neighbours, share important updates and resources, check on vulnerable residents and help set up a local ‘Help and Recharge’ station.<\/p>\n

Murwillumbah CORE (MCORE) was first established as HUB2484 in response to the 2022 floods, when the community came together to coordinate volunteers, donations and critical support.<\/p>\n

Run by local volunteers, the now renamed group is committed to building a stronger, more resilient Murwillumbah, helping people prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters.<\/p>\n

With a focus on preparedness, resilience and new funding, MCORE is equipping community members with essential tools, improved coordination and stronger support networks.<\/p>\n

Coordinators receive a kit that includes a marquee, generator, radio and other resources to help residents recharge, reconnect and reach help when it’s needed most.<\/p>\n

Katrina Semple from Murwillumbah CORE said street coordinators were vital links in the community during a disaster.<\/p>\n

“We’re calling on the quiet achievers and local legends who already lend a hand when it matters,” Semple said.<\/p>\n

“By joining the CORE Crew, you’ll be part of a network that makes sure no one faces disaster alone.<\/p>\n

“Whether it’s checking on your neighbours, sharing vital information, or pitching in on community projects, there’s a place for you.”<\/p>\n

The initiative is part of the NSW Supporting Spontaneous Volunteers Program.<\/p>\n

An information night, presented by MCORE and the Murwillumbah Community Centre, will be held at The River Room, Murwillumbah Services Club, on Wednesday, September 25, at 5.30pm.<\/p>\n
