NSW Ambulance honoured staff from across the Northern Rivers for bravery and long service at an awards ceremony in Ballina this week.<\/p>\n
Critical care paramedic William Brand received the National Medal for his leadership during ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, while veteran paramedic Terence Savage received multiple medals marking his 44-year career.<\/p>\n
Members of the aeromedical team were recognised for rescuing an elderly mother and son after their house slid down a slope during the 2022 floods.<\/p>\n
Community members were also honoured, including seven-year-old Elijah Phillips, who called Triple Zero when his mother had a seizure, using a drawing of his house from his ’emergency box’ to confirm their address.<\/p>\n
Labor MLC Emily Suvaal said ambulance staff and volunteers played a vital role in the health system.<\/p>\n
“I want to congratulate all NSW Ambulance award recipients recognised for demonstrating kindness, passion and bravery during service in often challenging and difficult circumstances,” Suvaal said.<\/p>\n
NSW Ambulance chief executive Dr Dominic Morgan told the ceremony it was a privilege to acknowledge those who provide critical care in life-threatening conditions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
