{"id":110147,"date":"2025-09-21T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-09-20T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/?p=110147"},"modified":"2025-09-17T19:24:04","modified_gmt":"2025-09-17T09:24:04","slug":"130-years-of-crystal-creek-public-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/news\/130-years-of-crystal-creek-public-school\/","title":{"rendered":"130 years of Crystal Creek Public School"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CRYSTAL Creek Public School marked 130 years with celebrations for students, families, staff and the wider community.<\/p>\n<p>Teacher Olly Hughes said it was a fantastic celebration of the broader school community and the school, which first opened in 1895.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s been a while in the planning as our 125-year celebration was cancelled due to COVID, so we knew that we needed to make up for that,&#8221; Hughes said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We thought a movie night would be great for the kids, for the families, and we made it accessible and cheap so everyone could come, and it was a brilliant evening for everyone.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_116633\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-116633\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-116633\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/09\/IMG_3605_53114-1-rotated.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-116633\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The dedicated Crystal Creek PS team. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The school also included a historical presentation with photos from the early 1900s, and vintage uniforms donated by former school families.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had artworks up, balloons, face painting, miniature animal petting zoo on the field, and our P&amp;C provided a pretty good barbecue as well,&#8221; Hughes said.<\/p>\n<p>Hughes has taught at the school for two and a half years and previously worked as a teacher&#8217;s aide.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Before that, I was the general assistant, which is basically the gardener, so I&#8217;ve gone all the way through before becoming a teacher.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\"><\/div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_116628\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-116628\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-116628\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/09\/IMG_3604_53063.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-116628\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The big screen featured school history and highlights as well as the main feature A Minecraft Movie.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I finished my master&#8217;s degree while I was here.
