{"id":110163,"date":"2025-09-21T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-09-20T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/?p=110163"},"modified":"2025-09-17T21:43:25","modified_gmt":"2025-09-17T11:43:25","slug":"byron-bay-back-on-top-after-mens-premier-league-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/sport\/byron-bay-back-on-top-after-mens-premier-league-win\/","title":{"rendered":"Byron Bay back on top after men&#8217;s premier league win"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BYRON Bay claimed a memorable 3-1 grand final win over South Lismore in the Far North Coast Football premier league.<\/p>\n<p>It was the Rams&#8217; seventh title since 2005, with Basile Degrange winning the Terry Greedy Medal for his attacking efforts from the wing.<\/p>\n<p>The team was coached by former player Ben Ahern, who won three grand finals between 2017 and 2020 before taking on the top job this season.<\/p>\n<p>They reached the decider after a 2-1 win over Bangalow, while South Lismore defeated pointscore champions Alstonville 3-1 in the first week of finals.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had a consistent team of youth and experience this year, so it was very rewarding,&#8221; Byron Bay club manager Vlad Knaus said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_116661\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-116661\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-116661\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/09\/IMG_6306_74676-1-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-116661\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lennox Head enjoyed a memorable 1-0 win over Pottsville Beach in the Football Far North Coast women&#8217;s premier division grand final. Ben has done an excellent job in his first year of coaching a senior team.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We also had some outstanding soccer players. Basile has terrific ball skills, he&#8217;s very fast and set up a lot of opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There was great camaraderie between the boys this year and that really helps.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Rams scored their first goal in the final minute before halftime and kept South Lismore scoreless for the rest of the game.<\/p>\n<p>They added two more goals early in the second half from corner kicks and defended strongly to secure the win.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_116658\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-116658\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-116658\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/09\/IMG_6313_75245.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"533\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-116658\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Thaya Evenden from Lennox Head won the Lisa Casagrande medal for player of the match in the women&#8217;s premier league grand final. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In other divisions, Byron Bay were the pointscore champions in the men&#8217;s championship league and women&#8217;s premier league this season.<\/p>\n<p>Nimbin proved too strong in the championship league final, recording a 4-1 win over the Rams.<\/p>\n<p>The Byron Bay women were undefeated during the regular season before a 1-0 loss to Lennox Head in the semi-finals.<\/p>\n<p>Lennox Head went on to defeat Pottsville Beach in the grand final, with Thaya Evenden winning the Lisa Casagrande Medal for player of the match.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BYRON Bay claimed a memorable 3-1 grand final win over South Lismore in the Far North Coast Football premier league.
