{"id":110172,"date":"2025-09-23T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-09-22T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/?p=110172"},"modified":"2025-09-17T19:54:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-17T09:54:09","slug":"brothers-break-through-for-emotional-grand-final-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/sport\/brothers-break-through-for-emotional-grand-final-win\/","title":{"rendered":"Brothers break through for emotional grand final win"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A DETERMINED Marist Brothers Rams broke a 22-year premiership drought with an inspired 20-12 win over Murwillumbah in the Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League grand final.<\/p>\n<p>It was an emotional day for the Rams, who set up the win with a herculean defensive effort in the second half at Crozier Field, Lismore.<\/p>\n<p>They repelled six straight attacking sets on their tryline, with halfback Shallin Fuller setting up crucial tries for fullback Noah King and second-rower Will Woolley.<\/p>\n<p>Fuller was named player of the match by the NRRRL management committee and capped a terrific season steering the side around the park after being named best and fairest in the competition.<\/p>\n<p>Co-captain Mitchell Krause was also among the try-scorers and called time on his career after 15 straight seasons in the top grade.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We can score points, but we pride ourselves on being a defensive team,&#8221; Krause said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I thought it was ours to lose and I was quietly confident. I&#8217;ve achieved everything I wanted and I&#8217;m walking away with us on top of the mountain.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Brothers were well served by co-captain Paul O&#8217;Neill, with memorable performances from King and second-rower Henry Lee.<\/p>\n<p>Coach Darryl Butcher took the reins this year and orchestrated the win alongside the club&#8217;s director of coaching, Matt Barber.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s relief, the pressure is off, and I&#8217;m really happy for a lot of the older boys in the team who I played with,&#8221; Butcher said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/09\/547621597_1312082967_67643.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"388\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Co-captain Paul O&#8217;Neill and Mitchell Krause celebrate the NRRRL grand final win. It&#8217;s been a three-year effort to get to this point.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A fair bit went against us in the grand final, but the boys just found a way.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve got players like Paul O&#8217;Neill who have never let me down.
