LOCAL families and visitors to Chinderah can now enjoy the refurbished Turnock Park after flood repair works by Tweed Shire Council.<\/p>\n
The park upgrade has been designed to be flood-resilient and accessible, helping to future-proof the popular space and create safer, more welcoming facilities for all ages and abilities.<\/p>\n
Council’s manager of parks and active communities, Murray Smith, said the works responded to community feedback received after the 2022 floods.<\/p>\n
“It’s great to see these parks brought back to life with exciting new features that are not only fun and functional, but built with future floods in mind,” Smith said.<\/p>\n
“Turnock Park now has a bright new play space, improved access from Chinderah Bay Drive and upgraded amenities.<\/p>\n
“Just up the road, John Oxley Park is nearing completion, with a new picnic area and accessible toilet block offering views of the river.”<\/p>\n
Turnock Park improvements include a new themed playground, refurbished picnic areas, accessible public toilets and car park upgrades, all built with flood mitigation measures to benefit the community in preparation for future severe weather events.<\/p>\n
The upgrades are part of a $15.5 million Community Assets Program funded by the Australian and NSW governments to support the rebuild and recovery from the 2022 floods.<\/p>\n
Other projects completed this year include works at the Vic Bianchetti Sports Field, Crabbes Creek Community Hall, Black Rocks Sports Field, Cudgen Foreshore Park, Barrie Smith Fields, Bilambil Sports Complex West, Bilambil Sports Complex East, Brian Breckenridge Clubhouse and the Murwillumbah Civic Centre.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
