{"id":110850,"date":"2025-10-16T12:43:56","date_gmt":"2025-10-16T01:43:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/news\/tweed-sustainability-awards-15-10\/"},"modified":"2025-10-16T13:07:03","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T02:07:03","slug":"tweed-sustainability-awards-15-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/news\/tweed-sustainability-awards-15-10\/","title":{"rendered":"Tweed businesses shining at sustainability"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TWEED\u2019S leading environmental innovators have been recognised for their efforts to protect the region\u2019s natural assets at the 2025 Sustainability Awards.<\/p>\n<p>The event was held last night at Cabarita Beach Bowls and Sports Club, celebrating the people and organisations making a meaningful difference to the region\u2019s environment, with nine winners chosen from 33 nominations.<\/p>\n<p>A two-time winner of the Tweed Sustainability Awards, Woodland Valley Farm was recognised in the Regenerative Agriculture category for improvements to processing and retail, demonstrating a near-circular food supply and a carbon-positive system, and for its goal to achieve net-zero certification in the coming years.<\/p>\n<p>For Wildlife Habitat and Conservation, Bilambil Landcare was honoured for planting 30,000 trees and for consistently expanding the area, while maintaining earlier regeneration areas, improving landscape connectivity, and demonstrating ongoing commitment.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2025\/10\/NolaFirthandBilambil_67080.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Winner of Wildlife Habitat and Conservation Award, Bilambil Landcare&#8217; Gary Austin, with councillor Nola Firth. Photo: SELENA EVISON<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In the Business category, Caldera Brewing &amp; Blending Co received the nod for saving energy, integrating renewable energy into their operations, diverting substantial amounts of waste, decreasing water usage, using whole fruit, imperfect fruit, and local composters, and brewing methods that reduced refrigeration energy by 60 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Head Chef of Potager restaurant, Luis do Carmo, was recognised for reducing the restaurant\u2019s environmental footprint, integrating regenerative agriculture with fine dining, and inspiring others to do the same through the rapid and widespread implementation of a holistic, circular \u2018garden to plate\u2019 sustainability program.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2025\/10\/LuisandChrisCherry-S_67087.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Winner of Sustainability \u2013 Adult award, Potager&#8217;s Luis do Carmo with Tweed Mayor Chris Cherry.
