But several eyewitnesses confirmed to the Times the footage was real.<\/p>\n
Amidst the chaos, one daredevil surfer took to the water for a stunt, while others gathered on the beach.<\/p>\n
Hundreds of surfers and people across the Tweed and Gold Coast took to Instagram to comment on the \u201conce in a lifetime\u201d footage.<\/p>\n
\u201cGood feed for the men in grey suits,\u201d former professional surfer Bede Durbidge said.<\/p>\n
\u201cStronger wind and some more rain we could be looking at a Sharknado scenario,\u201d another user said.<\/p>\n
The sharks were lured close to shore by a large bait ball, which saw some fishermen get close to the action.<\/p>\n
Bait balls are dense schools of small fish that form a spherical defence formation.<\/p>\n
They attract several predators, but it is rare to see one so close to shore.<\/p>\n
The last fatal shark attack on the Gold Coast was at Greenmount in 2020.<\/p>\n
Snapper Rocks usually hosts a World Surf League event each year, but the 2025 event was moved north to Burleigh Heads due to sandbank concerns following Cyclone Alfred.<\/p>\n
