IN A combined three-year partnership between the NSW Public Libraries Association and the NSW government, funding has been secured into the future for NSW Grandparents’ Day in Goonellabah and Lismore.<\/p>\n
As part of the annual event honouring the role of grandparents this week, Goonellabah Library held an intergenerational celebration that brought together grandparents, grandchildren and community members through live music, creative craft activities and shared storytelling.<\/p>\n
The recently restored and relaunched Lismore Library held Stories with Grandfriends, an inclusive event for children, families and older people to participate in storytelling and shared morning tea.<\/p>\n
NSW Public Libraries Association chief executive officer, Adele Casey, said the funding was highly appreciated.<\/p>\n
“Three years of dedicated funding ensures that Grandparents’ Day events thrive in libraries across NSW and continue to strengthen intergenerational bonds, foster community spirit and honour the lasting contributions of older people,” Casey said.<\/p>\n
The government secured $180,000 for 112 NSW libraries to host Grandparents’ Day activities.<\/p>\n
Member for Lismore Janelle Saffin said grandparents provide valuable love and support to families across the community and deserve a special day dedicated to them.<\/p>\n
“Each year, NSW Grandparents’ Day recognises grandparents and the diversity of grandparent relationships we have with older people in our community,” Saffin said.<\/p>\n
“As a grandparent myself, I know how special that relationship is and should be celebrated.<\/p>\n
