THE Seagulls to Cbus men’s mental health event will see people from Tweed take part in the 25km walk to raise funds for the Top Blokes Foundation.<\/p>\n

It is part of the Lift the Load Challenge, with the Tweed Seagulls leading the charge from its home base to the Gold Coast on Friday, November 7.<\/p>\n

The challenge has been running throughout October, with participants wearing 10kg vests while walking 50km to highlight the burden of the mental health challenges faced by young males.<\/p>\n

The foundation runs mentoring programs for teens and young men with a focus on promoting healthy and safe lifestyles.<\/p>\n

It will be the first time the Seagulls have held the walk as part of the event.<\/p>\n

“We wanted to do something extra this year and decided to do the big walk to help promote the cause,” Tweed Seagulls corporate and community manager Brad Birney said.<\/p>\n

“We’ve invited our sponsors and businesses to come on board, and we’ll stop at some of them on the way.<\/p>\n

“Rugby league is high profile and there is a lot of pressure on players these days.<\/p>\n

“Top Blokes fits in well with what we’re about in supporting young men who have been involved with or are part of the club now.”<\/p>\n

The Seagulls have been a charity partner with the foundation for the past two years.<\/p>\n

Since 2021, the Lift the Load Challenge has raised over $800,000 to help run mentoring programs with a range of youth workers.<\/p>\n

Former NRL players will likely be part of the walk, along with local singer Beau Shearer who has appeared on The Voice.<\/p>\n

Managing director of the Top Blokes Foundation, Melissa Abu-Gazaleh, said the challenge is a vital fundraiser for the group.<\/p>\n

“We exist to help young men live healthy and safe lives,” she said.<\/p>\n

“Through our mentoring programs, we give them the tools to make positive choices, check in with their mates, and build stronger communities.<\/p>\n

“Lift the Load is about raising awareness, but also about having real conversations \u2013 showing young men they’re not alone in what they carry.”<\/p>\n

The walkers will leave Club Seagulls at 6am and are expected to arrive at Cbus Stadium, Robina by 1pm.<\/p>\n
