{"id":111449,"date":"2025-11-13T13:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-11-13T02:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/?p=111449"},"modified":"2025-11-12T18:53:38","modified_gmt":"2025-11-12T07:53:38","slug":"riders-explore-the-countryside-as-cycling-festival-gathers-pace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/news\/riders-explore-the-countryside-as-cycling-festival-gathers-pace\/","title":{"rendered":"Riders explore the countryside as cycling festival gathers pace"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NORTHERN Rivers Cycling Club has celebrated a successful weekend of events which included food stalls and a festival atmosphere for riders across Lismore.<\/p>\n<p>It is just the second time the two-day Lismore Cycling Festival has been held in partnership with the council.<\/p>\n<p>It featured competitive racing, participation rides and newcomer information sessions for children and adults.<\/p>\n<p>There was criterium racing around the Oakes Oval complex, which was fast-paced, bunch-style racing on a closed-street circuit.<\/p>\n<p>A highlight was the Fondo events, which are rides designed to accommodate different skill levels and fitness around the countryside.<\/p>\n<p>They were distance events from 110km, 70km and 25km.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/32\/2025\/11\/578675062_1404717791_83065.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Children were able to take part in events at Oakes Oval during the Lismore Cycling Festival.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Northern Rivers Club aims to increase participation in cycling through new events<\/p>\n<p>They also advocate for improved safety and development of better biking infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Cycling isn&#8217;t just about racing, Fondo events are a chance for people to enjoy the beauty of our region at their own pace,&#8221; an event spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The festival is for everyone, whether you&#8217;re a seasoned rider or just looking for a fun way to get active.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Thank you to everyone who came along to support the event and all our amazing volunteers who made it happen.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The event was supported by Byron Bay Cycling Club, along with visitors from Coffs Harbour, Grafton and Yamba who compete in regular events.<\/p>\n<p>The Northern Rivers club also hosted one of its full moon rides over the course of the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Cyclists gathered at South Lismore train station car park before taking off for the night ride.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NORTHERN Rivers Cycling Club has celebrated a successful weekend of events which included food stalls and a festival atmosphere for riders across Lismore.
