A NEW Latin Fiesta and salsa dancing event is bringing extra spice and more nightlife entertainment to the Wharf Bar and Restaurant in Ballina.<\/p>\n

Wharf Bar owner Ralph Mamone plans to run it as a monthly event, featuring free salsa dancing classes alongside a South American-style barbecue.<\/p>\n

The first event attracted about 100 people, with 40 couples dancing through the night.<\/p>\n

It follows the success of the monthly Wharf River Club, which features performances by some of the top bands in the region.<\/p>\n

“We need more entertainment and a bit of diversity in the area,” Mamone said.<\/p>\n

“It creates another event for Ballina and hopefully it can help people have a bit more fun in their lives.<\/p>\n

“It’s amazing how fun it is, and it was great seeing everyone up and about.<\/p>\n

The new Latin Fiesta is turning heads along the river at Ballina.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

“The directive with the barbecue was it had to be just like home and there was delicious food on the night, we probably served about 80 meals.”<\/p>\n

Paid salsa classes will be held weekly under the tutelage of Elena Usenko, with people of all skill levels encouraged to attend.<\/p>\n

Usenko teaches classes in Ballina and Byron Bay under the Salsa Mind banner, with a focus on forming connections through dance and music.<\/p>\n

“We’re trying to grow salsa dancing in the region and people have been asking a lot more about in the last year or two,” she said.<\/p>\n

“They are getting a lot better at it, I love seeing the energy on the dance floor and they had a lot of fun at the Latin Fiesta.”<\/p>\n

The monthly event also features live music from DJs, with a courtesy bus service that extends to Byron Bay.<\/p>\n

The classes are currently held on Thursday nights but may change to avoid clashing with other dance nights in the region.<\/p>\n
