GRANT applications are now open for up to $15,000 under the Rural Landholders Initiative, a flagship program supporting farmers and landcare groups from Lismore City Council.<\/p>\n
Since 2015, the program has provided resources and labour for on-ground projects that protect and enhance critical areas, helping tackle large-scale issues.<\/p>\n
The funding is supplied over three years for projects in bush regeneration, weed control, habitat, stock-exclusion fencing and off-stream watering infrastructure.<\/p>\n
It can be an avenue for farmers to address large-scale problems and helps support koala habitats, riverbanks and remnant vegetation.<\/p>\n
“Council is committed to helping our rural community improve the condition and resilience of their land,” mayor Steve Krieg said.<\/p>\n
“These grants give landholders practical support to implement on-ground projects that benefit their property, our waterways and the broader landscape.<\/p>\n
“The program has delivered strong outcomes for environmental health and community engagement across the Lismore LGA.<\/p>\n
“It has helped many landholders undertake projects they may not otherwise have been able to achieve, and council continues to support this work by encouraging landholders to apply for funding to improve their properties.”<\/p>\n
The Rural Landholder Initiative runs alongside council’s Biodiversity Management Strategy and supports sustainable land management practices across the region.<\/p>\n
Applications are encouraged from farmers, industry groups, landcare groups and community organisations connected to the rural sector.<\/p>\n
“The grant provides an opportunity to get expert assistance, make meaningful progress on difficult areas and improve the long-term health and habitat of the land,” Krieg said.<\/p>\n
“Even small steps can lead to significant environmental gains when supported by the right resources and guidance.”<\/p>\n
