They held onto the phrase, unsure whether they would ever use it. But when the time came to choose a name for the duo they had formed, it proved to be the perfect fit.<\/p>\n<p>The pair met in a singing circle led by Melia Naughton in Bangalow, bonding over a shared love of harmony. Since then, they have performed at events including the Byron Music Festival and Bangalow Film Festival, and have spent the past few months regularly sharing the stage at Eltham Hotel&#8217;s open mic nights.<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;re excited to present their debut show at Pearces Creek Hall next month, showcasing a repertoire that ranges from heartfelt, melancholy melodies to upbeat tunes guaranteed to get audiences dancing.<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth discovered her love of music early, singing in a youth choir in Lismore and studying music at Kadina High School. But anxiety in her younger years, followed by the responsibilities of raising a family and other personal challenges, delayed her pursuit.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s only now I&#8217;m really discovering myself and what I want for my own life instead of always focusing on others&#8217; needs,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth had been writing poetry for years, but never thought she could write songs \u2014 a belief that now surprises her, as she has realised poetry is the more challenging craft.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_121264\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-121264\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-121264\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2026\/01\/HoneyandSilkareperfo_92951.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-121264\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Honey and Silk. Photo: HELEN NGUYEN<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In poetry the words themselves create the tune, and each word has to be precise as meanings can differ slightly which alters the tone,&#8221; she said. &#8220;With songwriting there is much more flexibility. Instruments become harmonies or rhythms which guide creative vocals allowing a story or emotion to unfold within the soundscape. I love that poetry is still the foundation of songs I write because words are powerful, and to be able to bring words to life through song is an incredible feeling.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Peacock had been an active part of Melbourne&#8217;s music scene in her younger years before becoming a mum, and has found the musical partnership reinvigorating.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s been a joy to see her eyes light up once again as the musical spirit fills her with a once forgotten energy,&#8221; Elizabeth said. &#8220;Together we are an amazing team, and we believe in each other wholeheartedly. It has been a beautiful experience of friendship, connection and a joint vision of bringing back the joy and fun into our lives.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Of course not all of our music is positive, exciting and happy. We have both been through enough of life to have felt a whole range of emotions which inform our songwriting. But we do like to embrace the moments, laugh together, bring joy to those around us and leave a little of our Honey and Silk sparkle wherever we go.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Honey and Silk will perform at Pearces Creek Hall from 5pm to 8pm on Saturday 7 February, with the audience encouraged to wear their favourite colourful clothes.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets cost $25 and are available via Humantix.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WHEN a friend from their singing circle described their voices as &#8220;like honey and silk,&#8221; Aimie Elizabeth and Benita Peacock were understandably flattered.
