{"id":114114,"date":"2026-03-14T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-03-13T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/?p=114114"},"modified":"2026-03-11T22:12:42","modified_gmt":"2026-03-11T11:12:42","slug":"duck-fest-draws-big-crowd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/news\/duck-fest-draws-big-crowd\/","title":{"rendered":"Duck fest draws big crowd"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BALLINA Duck Fest drew a large crowd to the Richmond River as hundreds of rubber ducks raced for charity.<\/p>\n<p>The event has been running for 34 years and is now organised by the Rotary Club of Ballina on Richmond.<\/p>\n<p>Duck Fest is a key fundraiser supporting grassroots projects and charities across the Northern Rivers.<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of numbered rubber ducks were released into the river for the race.<\/p>\n<p>Organisers added a giant inflatable, live entertainment and family activities to help create a fun day for all ages.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_123208\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-123208\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-123208\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2026\/03\/649411888_1370260055_80352.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-123208\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hundreds of ducks floating along the river for the annual race. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The attractions helped transform the riverside into a lively carnival setting ahead of the main race.<\/p>\n<p>Prizes worth $1000 were on offer through ticket sales, with Rotary club members working hard to promote the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe like to make Ballina a fun place, and this is something we took on a few years ago to keep that tradition going\u201d Rotarian Wayne Crawford said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe really wanted to focus on the kids this year and made sure we had enough colour and events organised.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_123209\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-123209\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-123209\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2026\/03\/648946781_1370260245_82120.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-123209\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Marine Rescue and other volunteer groups were a big part of Duck Fest this year. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Money raised from the event supports local community groups and Rotary programs run throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p>The best dressed duck competition was another highlight, with local businesses and community groups decorating ducks in colourful themes.<\/p>\n<p>The ducks were displayed in River Street ahead of the event.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency services and volunteer organisations including Ballina Marine Rescue and Australian Seabird and Turtle Rescue also attended the day with displays and demonstrations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BALLINA Duck Fest drew a large crowd to the Richmond River as hundreds of rubber ducks raced for charity.
