{"id":114311,"date":"2026-03-24T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-03-23T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/?p=114311"},"modified":"2026-03-18T23:27:43","modified_gmt":"2026-03-18T12:27:43","slug":"vet-training-boost-for-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/tweedcoasttimes\/news\/vet-training-boost-for-region\/","title":{"rendered":"Vet training boost for region"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NEW veterinary training facilities have opened at Southern Cross University&#8217;s Lismore campus as part of efforts to address workforce shortages in regional Australia.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose built centre will support hands on clinical teaching for veterinary medicine courses launched this year.<\/p>\n<p>The program has been developed in partnership with veterinary practices, wildlife hospitals and animal health organisations across the Northern Rivers.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Jon Hill said training students in regional areas was key to building a sustainable workforce.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We know veterinary workforce shortages are not simply about the number of graduates, they are about where those graduates choose to practise,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2026\/03\/651252787_1587453189_25177.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">SCU has unveiled its new veterinary training facilities at Lismore.
