A man has been charged after a fatal crash in Tweed Heads South, where a passenger died and the driver allegedly left the scene.<\/p>\n

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Heffron Street and Oxley Street about 10.30pm on March 30 after reports a sedan had rolled.<\/p>\n

Officers attached to Tweed Byron Police District attended and were told the vehicle had left the roadway before crashing into rocks at the intersection and overturning.<\/p>\n

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a front seat passenger, a man believed to be in his 30s, but he could not be revived at the scene.<\/p>\n

He has not yet been formally identified.<\/p>\n

Police allege the driver left the scene before emergency services arrived.<\/p>\n

A crime scene was established and an investigation was launched under Strike Force Dartglen, with assistance from the Crash Investigation Unit, to identify and locate the driver.<\/p>\n

Following inquiries, a 38 year old man attended Tweed Heads Police Station on April 1, where he was arrested.<\/p>\n

He has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, driving under the influence occasioning death, failing to stop and assist after a crash causing death, negligent driving occasioning death, and failing to stop at a red light.<\/p>\n

Police will allege the offences relate to the circumstances surrounding the crash and the driver\u2019s actions after the incident.<\/p>\n

He was refused bail and is due to appear before Bail Division Court 1 on April 2.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
