Photos: Cyberry Solutions.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Staff at Ballina RSL Club, Cherry Street Sports Group and Ballina Golf and Sports Club wore badges, hats and shirts to show support.<\/p>\n<p>Cherry Street Sports Group chief executive Tere Sheehan said the growth of the movement reflects the power of clubs to influence change through their connection to the community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What started locally has grown into something truly statewide,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That is how change begins, support must be locally visible and close by.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ballina RSL also hosted two key Purple Friday events, including a female empowerment workshop for staff, school leaders and community partners, followed by a purple community high tea bringing together local organisations working in the sector.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_125676\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-125676\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-125676\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2026\/05\/D8A7008_70562.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-125676\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The team at Ballina Golf and Sports Club supporting the Purple Friday initiative. Photo: Cyberry Solutions.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The high tea featured representatives from local support groups and Ballina Coast High School student leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Debbie Pawsey spoke about her lived experience with domestic violence and the work the Rotary Club is doing with education programs in local high schools.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Mayor Damian Loone was a guest speaker at multiple events and spoke about his work as the leading detective in the Lynette Dawson case.<\/p>\n<p>Cherry Street Croquet members David Scott and Robyn Poynting donated a further $1000 to Stacey Jane from the Escabags charity, which helps women leave unsafe environments on short notice.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Today is a line in the sand.
