HEAVY rain is forecast across parts of the Northern Rivers for the rest of today and into tomorrow, with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting falls of up to 50mm in some areas before conditions ease on Friday.<\/p>\n
The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting up to 35mm in Murwillumbah today and up to 45mm on Thursday, with conditions expected to ease on Friday.<\/p>\n
Byron Bay could receive up to 45mm for the rest of today and up to 45mm on Thursday, while Ballina may see up to 50mm today and up to 45mm tomorrow.<\/p>\n
East Lismore is forecast to receive up to 35mm today and up to 45mm on Thursday, before conditions begin easing heading into Friday.<\/p>\n
In a social media post, the Northern Rivers SES said it was monitoring conditions and preparing for potential impacts.<\/p>\n
Residents are advised to stay prepared by downloading the Hazards Near Me app, listening to local radio updates, preparing homes and gardens for possible storms, checking road conditions before travelling and checking on neighbours who may need assistance.<\/p>\n
The Bureau of Meteorology has also issued a hazardous surf warning for the Byron Coast, with dangerous conditions expected for activities including rock fishing, boating and swimming.<\/p>\n
NSW Police Marine Area Command urged people to avoid surf exposed areas and advised rock fishers to stay away from exposed coastal rock platforms. Boaters planning to cross shallow water and ocean bars are advised to consider delaying trips, while those already on the water should wear lifejackets and carry appropriate safety equipment.<\/p>\n
Residents are also advised to monitor updates via the NSW SES and Bureau of Meteorology websites.<\/p>\n
