A section of the Pacific Motorway remains closed in both directions at Tweed Heads West after a fatal truck crash early this morning.<\/p>\n

Emergency services were called to the motorway at about 2.25am on Friday following reports of a truck crash.<\/p>\n

Police said officers attached to Tweed\/Byron Police District attended and found a truck had crashed into a barrier, trapping the male driver.<\/p>\n

Fire and Rescue NSW crews freed the driver before NSW Ambulance paramedics treated him for serious injuries.<\/p>\n

He was taken to hospital in a stable condition.<\/p>\n

The male passenger died at the scene.<\/p>\n

Police say he is yet to be formally identified.<\/p>\n

The death comes as 351 people have lost their lives on NSW roads over the past 12 months.<\/p>\n

Police said a crime scene was established and the Crash Investigation Unit has begun inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.<\/p>\n

A report will be prepared for the coroner.<\/p>\n

Diversions remain in place.<\/p>\n
