FORMER Ballina bowler Aaron Teys is celebrating a memorable year on the greens as he prepares for his first Commonwealth Games appearance with the Australian Jackaroos.<\/p>\n
Teys will be one of the form bowlers for the Jackaroos having recently been named Bowls Australia international bowler of the year at an awards night on the Gold Coast.<\/p>\n
He followed up his award by taking home the blue-ribbon Men’s Singles title at the 2026 Australian Open held at Club Broadbeach.<\/p>\n
Winning the award came as a surprise, with the 32-year-old paying tribute to his mentors and teammates.<\/p>\n
“To be voted by your peers, the Jackaroos, is something that I hold very close to my heart,” he said.<\/p>\n
“Out of all the awards you can win, to be voted by the people you play with is the ultimate.<\/p>\n
“My mentors, Jeremy Henry, Leif Selby, and Alex Marshall \u2013 to have names like that in your corner, to talk to you about the game, is something that you just can’t buy.”<\/p>\n
Teys grew up playing at Ballina and has been part of the Warilla Bowling Club for several years.<\/p>\n
He still competes in Northern Rivers tournaments and is part of the Tweed Ospreys team in the Bowls Premier League.<\/p>\n
He won the Australian Open for the first time in 2023 and won gold at the World Outdoor Championships the same year.<\/p>\n
Teys will play in the Commonwealth Games pairs with former Warilla teammate Corey Wedlock, who also plays for the Tweed side.<\/p>\n

Teys and Wedlock claimed gold together in the men’s fours at the 2023 World Bowls Championships and enter Glasgow as one of the strongest pairings in the field.<\/p>\n
Bowls Australia’s performance director and national Coach Gary Willis said the Jackaroos have a well-balanced team of proven performers.<\/p>\n
“Selection is never straightforward, and the depth across both our open and para programs made for some incredibly tough conversations,” he said.<\/p>\n
“Representing Australia at a Commonwealth Games is one of the highest honours in our sport, and every athlete selected should be incredibly proud of what they’ve earned.”<\/p>\n
Bowls events at the Commonwealth Games will take place from Friday 24 July to Sunday 2 August.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
