THE Palace Regent Cinema will be a host venue of the 2026 Hurtigruten Nordic Film Festival from today, Friday 10 July.

Running until 2 August, the national fest features the best new cinema from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

This year’s lineup ranges over diverse cinematic topography including feel-good comedy, stylish psych thriller, coming-of-age drama and revelatory documentary.

The selection on offer showcases the unique storytelling and cultural insights that have earned Nordic cinema a distinct place in the film world.

Among the lineup, Icelandic drama Árru, from debut director Elle Sofe Sara, follows a family of Sàmi reindeer herders whose community and way of life is threatened by a proposed mining project.

Including traditional song and movement, the film draws on cultural expression to explore connection to environment.

In an exclusive, the highly anticipated Fjord, direct from winning the Palme d’Or at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, will screen as the festival centrepiece.

Shot on the picturesque western coast of Norway, the film stars Renate Reinsve and Sebastian Stan as a Romanian-Norwegian conservative couple facing scrutiny after moving to the wife’s progressive remote hometown.

Icelandic comedy-drama The Love That Remains, from director Hlynur Pálmason (A White, White Day, Godland) is the Hurtigruten Nordic Film Festival special presentation for 2026.

This film captures a year in the life of a family of five, as the parents navigate their separation, exploring love, family and shared memories.

It also features a Palme d’Og-winning performance from Pálmason’s own dog Panda, an Icelandic sheep dog.
