Eureka! It’s nearly school holidays…
SPARK the imaginations of young minds these school holidays with a creative workshop at the Eureka Centre.
As part of Ballarat Winter Festival, children are invited to visit and make their own wooden peg magnets with winter themed felt characters.
The activity will be led by educators and is suitable for all ages, although parental supervision is required.
“It is always recommended to pre book for these workshops they can be quite busy,” said Sarah Van de Wouw, education and public programs officer
“It will be a hands-on activity which depending on the children’s ages may require some assistance from their parents.”
Ms Van de Wouw said the activity is a great opportunity to get children out of the house during winter.
“They get to do an art and craft activity and take something home that’s quite substantial,” she said.
While the session is not focused on the Eureka story, Ms Van de Wouw said little elements of local history will be incorporated.
“In all of our activities we do we do refer to Eureka and we’ll have some options to create their character being a soldier or a miner or someone involved in Eureka,” she said.
“It’s important to us as an education team to be creating future custodians of the stories and people.”
The workshop will be on Wednesday 3 July at 10am or 11am. Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased on the Eureka Centre Ballarat website.
People interested in future school holiday activities are encouraged to join the centre’s mailing list.
