Ballarat born and bred painter is making old new again and everything in between.

A LOVE of his craft, his family and the city are at the heart of everything Keegan Devereux and Ultimate Painting Co. do.

Now in its fourth year, Keegan’s local business employs eight staff and is transforming homes – new and old – as well as retail, commercial and education spaces across the region, all with the client at the centre of the process.

“I love transforming houses,” he said. “It’s about seeing the old restored to new, and bringing our heritage back to life.

“We start with the client, we sit down with them and see what they want and need and go from there.”

Completing his apprenticeship under Gerard Vanderkley, followed by eight years in a partnership before striking out on his own, Keegan’s built up a strong reputation for high-quality finishes and a professional approach.

Since then he’s continued to build positive relationships with trusted local names like Status Homes, Molloy Building and 3 Pea’s Property Styling.

Attention to detail is a hallmark of Keegan’s work.

Ultimate Painting Co. is also a Dulux Accredited Partner, a choice Keegan said was easy to make.

“I was using their product,” he said. “It means we’re backed by Dulux, we use their products and can get advice and pricing from them.”

With great knowledge on the ins and outs of Ballarat’s complex heritage overlays, Ultimate Painting can help navigate the often-tricky waters of the region’s permits and approval process.

Keegan also has a large book of completed work and testimonials to look over for assurance and inspiration. It’s a portfolio he’s been able to develop with his partner organisations.

“We work in with 3 Pea’s Property Styling for colours and finish, “Keegan said. “That really helps the process and can guide the client towards an outcome they love.

“It’s great working with other professionals. It’s a second backing for the client so they can put their trust in what we’re doing, and it helps guide them through the steps to get everything done.”

Along with his wife Caitlin, Keegan is raising his two young boys, Lenny and Paddy in the city he always called home and has put his life into.

“I love this city and the lifestyle,” he said. “Everything is so close, and my friends and family are here.

“The boys keep me pretty busy.”

A long-time supporter of the local community, Keegan played junior footy with East Point before putting three years into the reserves squad, now he’s a ‘Roos major sponsor and has been for almost a decade.

While times have been, and may continue to be uncertain, Keegan and the team at Ultimate Painting Co are flexible and responsive in the current pandemic environment.

He’s been strong on creating a COVID-19 safe work place for customers and trades, with appropriate physical distancing measures, clean and healthy staff and things like hand sanitiser is a must on all jobs.

“We’re still lucky to be working in these tough times,” he said. “We’ve been able to make changes to the business to keep moving forward.

“We make sure we limit numbers on job sites and that everyone is clean and healthy.”
