IF you’re looking for something outdoorsy to do with the kids, about half-an-hour’s drive from Ballarat you’ll find the retro-charm filled Maze House and Gardens at Newlyn North.

Owner Trish Kevin and her partner Chris planted the 500 metres or so of weaving and snaking Cypress hedge almost 30 years ago, and more recently opened the grounds for outsiders to visit.

According to Trish, the whole shebang was created from what the couple “just thought might be a good idea!”

“We always liked mazes, so we just did it on the spur of the moment, and then we only opened to the public about five years ago,” she said.

“We also have traditional old-time carnival games throughout the garden, including moving target practice, a wind up horse racing game and the amazing buzz test.

“There’s orchards and a vegetable patch, and shady spots and a little bit of a creek, plus an indigenous plants area, so it’s a bit of a mix there for garden lovers as well as anyone who wants to play games.”

The Maze House is located at 3155 Midland Highway, Newlyn North. Further information, including opening times visit mazehouse.com.au.
