NINETY-four-year-old Margaret Wood laid a wreath last Thursday at the Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial in commemoration of D-Day’s 75th anniversary. She was accompanied by Ballarat Air Force Association representatives, Reverend John Furness and Janet Bates. Although Ms Wood was a member of the British Women’s Royal Naval Service, or a ‘Wren,’ it’s the first opportunity she’s ever had to lay a wreath in memory of her colleagues. As a teen, Ms Wood worked on top-secret D-Day preparations for two and a half years, assembling LCVP landing craft.
