A series of free hearing health checks for adults are being offered at Ballarat and Sebastopol libraries next month.
Community Hearing Advisers from Hearing Australia will conduct the short tests that are offered over a series of sessions at Ballarat library on Tuesday 14 July and Sebastopol library on Thursday 16 July.
The 15-minute appointments are open to anyone aged 18 and over and have booked up quickly when offered previously.
“These sessions provide a free, accessible screening option in a trusted public space,” a library spokesperson said.
“Early detection is key, and these checks help identify potential issues early and support prevention and intervention.
“The sessions provide a basic hearing screening that can quickly identify any concerns.
“Sessions are typically held in a quiet space within the library to ensure a comfortable and confidential experience for participants and headphones are used.
“Participants receive their results on the spot and if an issue is detected they may be referred to attend a comprehensive hearing assessment at a hearing centre.
“A comprehensive hearing assessment may incur a fee if the individual is not eligible for the Australian Government Hearing Services Program Voucher Scheme.
“There are still limited places available at both the Ballarat and Sebastopol library locations and a future session is planned for October.
“Bookings are not yet open for the October session but people can follow our Ballarat Libraries social channels to stay up to date.”
