Aerodrome’s RAAF building open on Heritage Weekend

May 22, 2019 BY

THE Ballarat Branch of the Air Force Association is opening its rooms, in the recently restored WWII former RAAF Officers’ Mess building at Ballarat aerodrome, to the public as part of Ballarat Heritage Weekend.

There will be a display of classic and vintage cars together with a small number of military vehicles on the parade ground at the front of the building.

The Ballarat Engine and Machinery  Preservation group, the other occupants of the building, will add running machinery and engines to the display.

Ballarat’s Sing Australia Choir will get everyone ‘In the Mood’, as musician Glenn Miller would say, performing a repertoire of  WWII and 1940s songs inside the Mess on Sunday afternoon at 1.30pm.

The Friends of the Anson Museum and the Aviation Museum will also be open over the Heritage Weekend.

The Military Brotherhood Military Motorcycle Club is holding a sausage sizzle and the Air Force Association will provide tea and coffee refreshments.

Ballarat Heritage Weekend is on Saturday, 25 and Sunday, 26 May.
