THE Art Hub, located next to the Mining Exchange, has welcomed its first artist-in-residence printmaker Jess Schroeter.

She’ll be creating art, running workshops, and sharing her practice for the next three months.

Schroeter’s workshops will include linocut basics, screen-printing and mono-printing.

“I’ve always liked holding workshops and I’ve run a few through the years,” she said. “This came up and I that it would be perfect for holding my workshops.

“Anyone can come along and they are very beginner friendly.”

Schroeter began doing printmaking alongside painting until eventually it became her focus.

“I started print making in university as an elective and it caught my interest although I wasn’t very good,” she said.

“It takes time to develop it as a practice.

“It’s very process driven so there’s certain steps you have to go through and getting a good set of prints is always a challenge.”

This opportunity was provided to Schroeter by the City of Ballarat and she said she is thankful for the way local art is supported.

“There’s opportunities in other places but I feel like Ballarat’s really welcoming to all levels of emerging to established artists and giving people a chance,” she said. “It’s a pretty amazing space.”
