Aussie films screen for Refugee Week

June 19, 2019 BY

MERGER is an offbeat and uproarious Aussie movie about footy, life in the country and the power of communities to overcome small-mindedness while Hope Road is an Australian made documentary that follows South Sudanese Zacharia Machiek’s walk from Brisbane to Sydney.

Both are screening at the Ballarat Welcome Film Festival as part of 2019 Refugee Week.

The event, organised jointly by Centre for Multicultural Youth and Ballarat Regional Multicultural Council will include stories from local residents of their refugee journeys and experiences settling in Ballarat.

The Film Festival is at Barkly Square, 25-29 Barkly Street Ballarat on Friday, 21 June from 6pm to 9.30pm. General admission tickets $20 and $15 concession, which includes Nepalese tasters and refreshments, are available through Eventbrite at ballaratrefugeefilmfest.eventbrite.com.au.

All funds raised from the film screenings will be donated to the Ballarat Refugee and Asylum Seeker Network.
