THE number of Ballarat medical clinics transitioning to full bulk billing is the highest of any federal electorate.
There are 18 local clinics that are currently charging a co-payment that will transition to full bulk billing following funding from the Federal Government.
There are approximately 40 GP clinics in the region and eight were already fully bulk billing.
“Our local clinics are leading the nation in the transition to full bulk billing because they know it’s the right thing to do for their patients and our community,” Member for Ballarat Catherine King said.
“No one should put off seeing a doctor because it’s too expensive.
“Our Medicare investment is ensuring everyone can afford to get great care close to home.”
Since the start of November, bulk billing incentives have been paid to GPs for every patient, whereas previously they were only available for under 16-year-olds and concession card holders.
The payment received by regional bulk billing clinics is now double what it was before this month.
