Better operetta

May 15, 2019 BY

THE Ballarat Anglican Cathedral will resound with notes of a different kind when it opens its doors to Operetta at the Cathedral this Sunday, 19 May at 2pm.

Robyn Antoine, one of Ballarat’s most enthusiastic lovers of operetta, has gathered together a group of well-known singers, including Sophie Salvesani, fresh from her performance in West Side Story with Opera Australia, to support the Cathedral’s Music Foundation.

“I am delighted to be performing with my friends in this wonderful space that has the most amazing acoustics. It’s wonderful to be one of the first musical groups to actively support the Cathedral in its endeavour to encourage young people to embrace music, which is such an important part of our lives,” Antoine said.

Along with Salvesani, Antoine will be joined by tenor Lyndon Green, bass Stewart Greedy, baritone Vincent Sully, and accompanied on the piano by Geoff Urquhart Musical Director at Wesley Church Melbourne.

Music for Operetta at the Cathedral will appeal to a wide audience with favourites by composers Sigmund Romberg and Franz Lehar as well as highlights from well-loved Broadway musicals, much-loved Arias by Bizet and Puccini – and some sacred songs.

The event is set for the Anglican Cathedral, Lydiard Street South, Ballarat. Tickets can be purchased via TryBooking, the Cathedral on 5331 1183, or at the door for $25 or $20 concession and includes afternoon.
