Christmas in Ballarat comes alive with art, light and community spirit

CHRISTMAS has arrived in Ballarat, and the city is looking more joyful than ever.

This year’s displays bring together sparkling lights, entertainment and creative surprises that make December the perfect time to explore the city.

One of the highlights is the Christmas Art Trail, a fun and family-friendly way to discover colourful festive artworks scattered throughout the CBD. Created in collaboration with local artist Kathy Holowko, the trail brings creativity and playful summer Christmas character to Ballarat.

Just around the corner, the revitalised Bridge Mall is shining brighter than ever thanks to a series of new light installations and decorations. Glowing displays and oversized ornaments fill the precinct with magic, making it a beautiful spot for Christmas shopping.

Adding to the festive atmosphere throughout December, the city comes alive with roving entertainment along Sturt Street and throughout the Bridge Mall. Musicians and live performers bring joy to shoppers and visitors along with memorable festive moments that light up the precinct.

Santa’s Red Telephone Booth and Letter Writing Station return to the Ballarat Visitor Information Centre. Children – and a few cheeky adults – can step inside the phone booth and leave a personalised message for Santa.

The letter-writing station invites everyone to put pen to paper, sending letters or postcards addressed to Santa or spreading Christmas cheer to loved ones.

A community favourite, Ballarat Carols by Candlelight will be held at the Ballarat Showgrounds and Event Centre on Saturday 20 December.

Gates open at 5pm for family-friendly pre-show activities, including kids’ zones, food vans and live performances before the main concert kicks off. Expect local performers, the Ballarat Memorial Concert Band, community singing and a visit from Santa!
