WORLD class cancer research will continue in Ballarat with the help of the No. 23 Masonic Social Committee who recently donated a new fridge and freezer to the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute.

Secretary and treasurer Doug Williams said the committee donated to FECRI after regular recipient the Cops and Kids Camp was cancelled throughout lockdown.

“We had to look for somewhere else to allocate that money,” Mr Williams said. “That’s why when we wanted to redirect our donation away from Cops and Kids, Fiona Elsey sort of came to mind because of the work that they do in that field of trying to get to the bottom of what’s causing cancers.”

“With our donations that we present we try and make them local donations. They’re always organisations in and around Ballarat that we try and donate to.”

The donated equipment valued at $1500 has already been put to use storing antibody samples at the institute, which was recently recognised for their achievements into targets for ovarian cancer and histiocytic disorders.
