DAMASCUS College is marking one-hundred-and-forty years.

However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the catholic secondary school, which launched under its current name in 1995, has decided to postpone their anniversary gala until 2022.

A night of entertainment and celebration of the catholic institution is planned. The school stems from Sacred Heart College, established in 1881, St Paul’s Technical College, dating back to 1948, and St Martin’s in the Pines, which opened in 1967.

“In order to address the updated travel and safety restrictions for COVID-19, as a College we have decided to postpone the 140 Year Anniversary Gala scheduled for Saturday 23rd October,” a spokesperson said.

“We know that attendees planned and hoped to join this celebration from different locations around Australia, so we have made the tough decision to postpone, to minimise risk and to exercise the necessary caution, in order to maintain the care, safety and well-being of our wider community.

“As soon as the new date has been set for term one 2022, you will receive plenty of advance notice. Tickets will be reissued.”
