A DOCUMENTARY exploring one man’s opposition to a Canadian act of parliament, The Rise of Jordan Peterson, could be set for Ballarat later in the month.

But the screening is not a sure thing. Part of the FanForce program, organisers need to reach a minimum number of tickets sold for the showing to go ahead at Regent Cinemas.

“Bringing an independent film to Ballarat through the ‘cinema-on-demand’ format appealed to me… controversy around the difficulty the filmmakers have had lately in trying to get cinemas to screen the film brought it to my attention,” said screening organiser Theodora Pantelich.

In 2016 Canadian clinical psychologist and academic Jordan Peterson is a released a series of Youtube lectures criticising his country’s Bill C-16.

Also known as An Act to amend the Canadian Human Rights Act and the Criminal Code, C-16 added gender identity and expression as protected grounds to the Canadian Human Rights Act, and under the provisions of the Criminal Act.

The YouTube videos went viral and Mr Peterson became a polarising character as he shared his thoughts on religious systems and beliefs, gender, politics, society, and psychology at debates, guest lectures, and in his books.

“It’s a wide-ranging examination of the impact this man has had and the activists who oppose his views,” Ms Pantelich said.

“It is as all good documentaries should be; impartial, even-handed, and it encourages viewers to make up their own minds about Jordan Peterson,” said Ms Pantelich.

The screening is organised by FanForce, an online organisation that allows you to vote for a film from their library, and have it screened in a cinema of your choosing.

A requirement for it to run, however, is to have enough tickets bought per viewing.

Buy your tickets soon to guarantee the screening running. If unsuccessful, tickets will be refunded.

The Rise of Jordan Peterson will play on Saturday, 23 November from 1.30 to 3.30pm at Regent Cinemas Ballarat.
