NOMINATIONS are now open for the 2023 Ballarat Senior of the Year Awards.

Community members are encouraged to nominate exceptional people in their lives over the age of 55 or outstanding First Nations people over the age of 50 who strive to make their city a better place to live.

“The exceptional seniors who offer their time and skills to benefit Ballarat residents, and the entire community, are so important to us,” City of Ballarat mayor Cr Des Hudson said.

“About 30 per cent of the Ballarat population is aged 55 or older according to latest census data, and their years of dedication to our city is truly significant.

“There are so many people out there who deserve special recognition, so I encourage everyone who knows somebody to get nominating.”

Categories will highlight Senior of the Year, volunteers, equity, diversity and inclusion, healthy and active living, and ageing well.

Make a nomination at bit.ly/3OGNdSP until Sunday 17 September. The shortlisted nominees, and recipients, will be announced in October, with a presentation ceremony set for town hall on the last day of the month.

Hard-copy nomination forms can be accessed at the Phoenix Building, Ballarat Libraries, or by calling 5320 5670.
