WITH 35 years’ experience behind the counter of her Sturt Street florist, Julie Collins can safely say Valentine’s Day is the busiest time of the year.
The owner of Boronia Exclusive Florists said she is ready for the energy and joy that comes with the day.
Ms Collins said the occasion generates happiness in those who receive her flowers as well as those who deliver.
“Everyone seems to be in a good mood, everyone loves to receive a bunch of flowers,” she said. “For the delivery drivers it’s a fun day for them. People are happy to see them.
“It’s an exciting day, a fun day.”
Ms Collins, who has been associated with the shop since her parents owned the business, said the day required planning and preparation, and that it had increased in popularity throughout the years.

“Well, it’s definitely grown in size, it’s a much bigger occasion now than it used to be when I started,” she said on Monday. “Mother’s Day used to be the biggest, but this has definitely taken over now.
“You know, people want their flowers on the day, so we have to do a lot of prep, get ready prior to the day, so Thursday onwards will be flat out.
“I’ve been doing it for a long time, so I know what’s ahead of us, know how to get through it, I’ve got good staff with me so I’m feeling confident.”
She said roses had always been a favourite, but mixed bouquets had also become popular.
Ms Collins encouraged people to pre-order so they could get the heartfelt gifts they wanted for their loved ones.
