UNTIL this Sunday 16 November, City of Ballarat residents can dispose of domestic green waste free of charge at the Ballarat Transfer Station.

Last year, more than 1800 cubic metres of green waste, which includes prunings, small branches, grass, leaves and flowers, was dropped off during the initiative.

The free offer is for residents of the City of Ballarat only and the green waste must be separated from other materials and not exceed four cubic metres.

From Saturday 6 to Friday 12 December, City of Ballarat residents can dispose of mattresses at the Transfer Station for $16.56, which is half the usual price.

The mattresses will be transported to Melbourne where the springs, foam and timber are recycled.

“Free green waste week is a great opportunity to prepare for the fire season, clear gutters, prune branches and keep lawns tidy,” mayor Cr Tracey Hargreaves said.

“Half price mattress week offers an affordable option for disposing of mattresses, which contain recyclable materials. Reducing the cost helps discourage illegal dumping and promotes responsible disposal.”

Household kerbside recycling materials, paper and cardboard, glass and plastic containers (types one and two), triple-rinsed agricultural chemical containers, metal, steel, aluminium, and cooking oil can also be disposed at the Transfer Station of free of charge.
