Furniture supplied after fire

A FULL truck load of furniture was sent from Ballarat to a Natimuk family last week after they lost their home in the January bushfires.

It was delivered by Community Care Centre Ballarat which has been supplying household items to those in need, and is preparing to service more bushfire-affected Victorians.

The centre dropped off the furniture to the Natimuk family on 11 March. In February, the family visited the centre and selected the items they needed.

The home had been razed in a grassfire on 9 January.

White goods, electrical items, kitchen and dining ware, manchester, and artwork were supplied.

“Everything that a family usually has in their home except clothes and personal health items,” Community Care Centre Ballarat chair Gary Morgan said.

Mr Morgan said the centre had contacted Lions and Rotary organisations in Natimuk and Horsham offering to supply items to eligible residents following the January fire.

The furniture was delivered in the centre’s truck, with fuel funded from donations to the Rotary emergency relief fund.

Mr Morgan expected the centre would supply more items to residents affected by the fire.

He said the centre, which helped those affected by issues such as domestic violence and financial hardship, was equipped to assist with emergencies.

“We are quite prepared when an emergency such as a bushfire or a flood comes up that we do it,” he said.

He said the centre had been set to send another truck full of items to the Victorian Emergency Relief Network on Tuesday 17 March. The items will be used to support those that had been affected by the bushfire in Harcourt.

“The items will go into storage before being distributed to families in and around Harcourt when they are ready to receive the household goods,” Mr Morgan said.
