BRIGHT yellow recycle bins are now available in all Ballarat cemeteries specifically for the disposal of plastic flower wraps.

They will help eliminate the problem of discarded plastic flapping around in the wind and getting caught in fencing and trees and landing on other graves.

Because of the lightweight nature of the wrapping it can also blow into waterways, drains and neighbouring residential properties.

Bins are clearly labelled and should only be used for the recycling of soft plastic not plastic bottles or containers.

Cemetery staff will be responsible for emptying the eight bins located within the cemeteries on a regular basis

The contents will be transferred to recycling collection sites located at supermarkets in the Ballarat area.
