ALL the fun of the fair is coming to the Shire in April.

With funding from the State, and a Federal Government disaster recovery grant, the Golden Plains Community Fairs will run during the Golden Plains Farmers Market at Bannockburn and the Smythesdale Country Market.

Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Gavin Gamble said fun-filled family events will include live music, market stalls, food, and games, and local emergency services’ information stalls.

“It’s been terrific to see the return of events in Golden Plains over the last few months and the Golden Plains community fairs are a chance for our community to come together and enjoy the best of what the Shire has to offer,” he said.

“The community fairs will be a great, fun day out, and a valuable opportunity to celebrate our local emergency services and have discussions about the important work that they do in our bushfire-prone communities.

“Bushfire preparedness is essential to life in Golden Plains and it’s great to be working with two popular local events to bring this message to the forefront.

“I encourage all Shire residents to attend these wonderful events and to stop by for a chat with emergency services as they enjoy the festivities.”

In addition to the market stalls, Bannockburn will see a circus workshop, pedal karts, and live music from The Peter Chapman Duo and Jonathon Chandler, while Smythesdale will have a mini golf course, a visit from the easter bunny and a performance from children’s entertainment group the Mik Maks.

Bannockburn CFA will also be raising money for the Good Friday Appeal, running a dance-off and fire hose target practice.

The Golden Plains community fairs will be held in Bannockburn on Saturday, 2 April from 10am to 3pm on the corner of High and Market streets, and in the Smythesdale historic precinct on Saturday, 16 April from 10am to 3pm.
