A NEW Belle of the Ballarat Carols by Candlelight ball has been announced to sing on Sunday, 22 December.

Ballarat musical theatre personality and star of BLOC’s recent production of Beauty and the Beast, Brittany Harbour will perform at City Oval on the big night.

A graduate of Ballarat Academy of Performing Arts, now Federation University Arts Academy, Harbour started ballet at age two. Treading the boards feels like home.

Formerly a member Connie Lemke’s choir, Harbour remembers being part of the event as a child. Stepping off stage, she’d join the audience to enjoy the rest of the show.

“Sitting there, we’d look at the sky to see if Santa’s sleigh was going over. All those memories have come flooding back,” she said.

“We’d meet up with our friends, end up playing with all the children and it’s just such a good way for the community to come together.”

Harbour calls Ballarat to get fully on board the festive train, having been sad to hear the carols had been “canned” earlier this year.

“To see some people come together to bring it back to life… To work for a cause and see something positive come from it, this is what community theatre should be,” she said.

“I’d always be encouraging the community to support local events because that’s when we get to see things get bigger and better, when we have the turn out.

“The joy of Christmas is being able to share something with everybody. It’s exciting to get to have a sing, and I’m just such a big Christmas fan. Anything Christmas, I’m definitely on board.”

The Ballarat Carols by Candlelight presented by Harcourts is set for Sunday, 22 December at City Oval.
