WITH the reputation as a fun and frothy fundraiser, the annual Hopathon is set to return to Hop Temple for a transformative cause.
The bar’s fun run on Saturday 15 November will aim to raise funds for Grampians Health’s paediatric rehabilitation hub for children with chronic conditions, illness and injury.
The hub is set to be upgraded to make it more welcoming and pleasant for patients like 13-year-old Cody Burnett.
Last week, Cody got to meet running legend and Olympian Steve Moneghetti and Hop Temple owner Brian Taylor during a special event outlining the plans for the hub’s overhaul.
Cody lives with cerebral palsy and accesses special care including physiotherapy, speech therapy, dietetics, orthopaedics, neuropsychology and occupational therapy through the Victorian Paediatric Rehabilitation Service.
He said the current space can feel uninviting at times.
“Going to the rehab centre feels cold and dreary,” Cody said.
“It’s not like going to the Children’s Hospital where it’s much more welcoming.”

Team leader of the Victorian Paediatric Rehabilitation Service, Kirsten Wilken, said the transformation will have a lasting impact.
“Right now, the rooms are tired, grey and clinical. This refurbishment will help us create vibrant, safe and engaging spaces that encourage movement, play and confidence,” she said.
Funds raised though the Hopathon will feed into Grampians Health’s annual Christmas appeal, which will then be directed to the overall upgrade of the hub next year.
The Hopathon hops off at 11.30am on Saturday 15 November at Hop Temple and participants can run, walk or hop the 600-metre course.
Tickets are priced at $55. Each ticket includes a t-shirt, headband, medal, drink and a donation to the paediatric rehabilitation hub.
After the race, there will be live music, raffles, food, auctions and post-race celebrations in Hop lane. Tickets are available at hoptemple.com.au/events/hopathon.
