Listening and storytelling at B31

July 17, 2019 BY

WEEK two of the B31 Ballarat Business Festival continues disseminating information, ideas and initiatives for all levels of business.

The Coaching Fundamentals interactive workshop on Monday, 12 August will assist with more efficient and effective ways of coaching staff for better outcomes, said Sheree Collins, Victorian Chamber of Commerce’s Team Leader Workplace Solutions.

“The participants will develop listening skills as well as delivery skills, it’s all about communication styles and understanding people process information and communication differently,” Ms Collings said.

“The session, facilitated by Senior Consultant Peter Maplestone is about adapting your delivery methods to their receptive methods.”

Ms Collins said coaching is about asking great questions, listening without judging, and empowering people to find solutions and take responsibility for their actions.

Mike Boyle, Managing Director and CEO of Sales Shift is a storyteller.

He will spin the tale of the 1914-1916 Trans-Antarctic expedition led by Sir Ernest Shackleton at the Leadership at the Edge workshop on Wednesday, 14 August.

“I am using a unique approach to leadership called Metaventure where I tell an amazing adventure story and then take 30 years of research and learning out of the story,” Mr Boyle said. “It is about what people do when they are under life and death pressures.

“There are enough parallels in behaviour, in the thirty odd life and death stories we have researched, that if we apply it to a business performance framework, we can learn how should we behave and what should we do,” he said.

Mr Boyle said the workshop participants will walk away with a very different slant on leadership and teamwork.
