GOLDEN Plains young people between the ages of twelve and eighteen are being offered the chance to participate in a bunch of free activities, plus transport to and from some of them, during the month of January.

The activities include a Skate and Scoot clinic at the Bannockburn Skate Park on Tuesday, 18 January, Laser Tag on Wednesday, 19 January, a trip to Geelong to see Sing 2 at the movies on Thursday, 20 January, and a movie day at the Bannockburn Youth Space on Friday, 21 January.

In the following week, another Skate and Scoot clinic will be held at the Smythesdale Skate Park on Tuesday, 25 January, with a trip to Xtreme Bounce Ballarat on Thursday, 27 January and a visit to Adventure Park Geelong set for Friday, 28 January.

The events are part of the Shire’s Summer of Fun and being run by the municipal Youth Team.

Golden Plains mayor Cr Gavin Gamble said the activities are designed to appeal to the “interests of the diverse cohort of young people in Golden Plains Shire.”

“The School Holiday Programs provide safe, inclusive spaces for young people from all across the Shire to connect and make new friends, while developing valuable skills,” he said.

“Alongside COVID-19 and mental health, social connection was identified in the Golden Plains Youth Survey as one of the top three issues facing young people in the Shire.”

“Council is committed to providing opportunities for young people to access social connection and develop friendships in fun and accessible spaces and programs.”
