Medieval faire back for fifth year
PREPARE to be transported to the Middle Ages, as the annual Victorian Goldfields Medieval Faire rides into town.
Now in its fifth year, the fundraising event is being held at the Ballarat Polocrosse Grounds on 22 and 23 February.
For 2020 the Royal Flying Doctor Service has been selected as the recipient charity for the faire and will receive a large portion of the profits from the weekend.
Event secretary Rebecca Poltorasky said the RFDS is an invaluable resource to Australia.
“Their services in the rural parts of Australia are insurmountable,” she said. “And they don’t require a large amount of government funding.”
Medieval market stalls will be selling their goods, with various food vendors and a fully licensed bar on site.
Throughout the weekend, patrons can look forward to horseback jousting, historical battles between knights and skilled-arms training.
“The historical medieval battles are no different to taekwondo, wrestling, boxing, all those kinds of contact sport. These guys just use swords and axes instead,” said Ms Poltorasky.
The event will also be hosting a range of demonstrations of medieval craft, such as blacksmiths and traditional woodworking.
Head to the Polocrosse Grounds at 207 Airport Road Mitchell Park on the 22 and 23 February to immerse yourself in the world of old.
